Dark Phoenix

And another friendly hi-def hello to our fellow blu-ray geeks. Welcome to the weekly look at our most wanted titles coming to blu-ray and/or 4K Ultra HD for the week of September 17, 2019.

A short list of offerings this week, folks, with only one significant new release hitting 4K UHD. That doesn't mean there aren't a couple of titles we'd love to put on our shelves this week.

The big release this week comes from 20th Century Fox and is the 12th entry in the X-Men series. X-Men: Dark Phoenix is getting a 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray + Digital HD edition that comes with an audio commentary and a whole host of bonus features.

Shout Factory is re-releasing the 1988 Matthew Broderick classic Biloxi Blues on blu-ray that will feature a new interview with actor Corey Parker. {googleads}

Sailing out of the Warner Archive collection this week is the blu-ray release of Popeye the Sailor: The 1940s, Volume 3 that contains 17 newly presented cartoon adventures remastered from the original negatives.

Arrow is putting out a blu-ray edition of the Wes Craven 1985 horror classic The Hills Have Eyes: Part II. The film is getting a brand new 2K restoration from the original film elements. The company is also releasing a limited edition 2-disc set of The Prey which gets a brand new 2K restoration of the filmmaker-approved US Theatrical Cut from the original camera negative. Also included are a couple of new audio commentaries and interviews as well as previously released bonus material.

A couple of other titles getting our attention this week are: Batman 4-Film Collection 4K; John Waters' Polyester, and the blu-ray set of Noir Archive Volume 3: 1956-1960.

Matthew Broderick stars as a naive army recruit looking for action – though not the battle kind – in Neil Simon's hilarious comedy about boot camp during WWII. The year is 1945 and Eugene Morris Jerome (Broderick) finds himself far from the comforts of his Brooklyn home after being sent to basic training in Biloxi, Mississippi. Expecting the army to be dolls, doughnuts and USO dances, he instead encounters a tough drill sergeant (Christopher Walken) and a platoon of often hostile recruits. Armed with only his sense of humor, Eugene is determined to leave camp with everything he came in with – except his virginity – in this light-hearted look at one man's determined plan to march to his own beat.
