In a few days we'll know a whole lot more about the plot for Star Trek Into Darkness when a special 9-minute trailer debuts in front of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey next week. But until then, the teaser trailer below will have to do. Yes, that's right, following a disturbing trend of late, we have for you a trailer that teases the upcoming trailer which teases the movie that will hit theaters next year.

Of course, Star Trek Into Darkness is the follow-up to the wildly popular JJ. Abrams-directed Star Trek from 2009 which earned more than $380 million in worldwide box office draw. Abrams is again in the director's chair working from a script by Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman.

It's hard to get a whole lot from this teaser trailer, but according to the plot synopsis, we do know that Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) must lead a manhunt in search of an unstoppable force of terror born right within their own organization. As the crew of the Enterprise is propelled into an epic game of life and death, sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

We'll update with the official full-length trailer when it is made available next week, but in the meantime, feast your eyes on a Benedict Cumberbatch who wreaks havoc with Superman-like power.

Star Trek Into Darkness also stars Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, and John Cho. It is slated to boldly kick off the Summer movie season on May 17th of next year.
