KILL YOUR DARLINGS sees Daniel Radcliffe in Gay Role

Kill Your Darlings - Daniel Radcliffe

Here’s news for the literature fandom. In a fictional re-telling of their lives, Beat Generation poets Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac and William Burroughs get together to solve a real-life murder mystery set in 1944. Starring Elizabeth Olsen, Daniel Radcliffe, Dane DeHaan, Michael Hall and Ben Foster, indie film Kill Your Darlings is set to be released in 2013.

It’s an old topic, but this may be one of Radcliffe’s many breakthroughs post-Potter. After the success of the franchise, Radcliffe has already shaken off the wizard image and lent different talents to screen and stage with various and mostly more serious roles – a father/lawyer in the horror film The Woman in Black, and a disturbed youth in the dark dramatic stage play Equus. He also just left the stage after a yearlong stint as the comical protagonist in the musical How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying.

This time around, 23-year old Radcliffe portrays controversial gay poet Allen Ginsberg. The role was initially offered to Jesse Eisenberg, with Chris Evans and Ben Whishaw as Kerouac and Carr more than 3 years ago and was completely re-hashed by director John Krokidas.

Not known to most though, incidentally Radcliffe has also published a poem of his own under the pen name Jacob Gershon.

The recently concluded shoot involved scenes with Radcliffe and DeHaan as a couple and by the photos released (below), it looks to be a promising act. Radcliffe still dons a pair of frames like the boy who lived, but sports a different ‘do – black and curly this time.

There is no denying Radcliffe’s gift for acting. At this rate it would be an interesting shock to see him star in a romantic comedy flick, but his recent roles demand more mature talent so it looks like the young star is up and ready for a promising career if it already isn’t.
