Wings coming back the theather

Wings (1927) - Fully Restored, Breathtaking Epic to Screen at Select Cinemark Theatres Wednesdays, May 16, 2012

If you’ve got a mad crush on all things Oscar and have a burning desire to travel to the past, Cinemark Theatres, a leading motion picture exhibitor, has your ticket to ride…or fly, that is. For one night only, the silent film Wings - the very first motion picture to win an Academy Award – is back in select locations. This historic film returns for a rare presentation on Wednesday, May 16th. Two chances on that day are offered: 2:00 p.m. and 7:00  p.m.

Wings is a 1927 World War I drama that explores the devastating effects of war through the  story of two men who go off to battle and the woman they both leave behind.   This historic piece of cinema stars Clara Bow, Charles “Buddy” Rogers and Richard Arlen, and also features screen legend Gary Cooper in one of his first feature film roles. Directed by William A. Wellman from a story by John Monk Saunders and a screenplay by Hope Loing and Louis D. Lighton, Wings is an unforgettable aerial journey. The film has been rated PG-13 by the MPAA.

Obviously, Wings is a classic film and this pristine print is wonderfully executed by its handlers. Fully restored with original color tints and state-of-the-art THX sound, the remastered print is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see what a cool $2 million could get you back in the day. Reel Reviews previously reviewed the print (as it is available on blu-ray) and can attest to the quality of the remastering job in both its handling of Wellman’s visuals and the original score now recorded by a full orchestra.

Don’t miss this exciting chance to see a bit of Hollywood history the way it was meant to be seen…in the theatre. A full list of participating Cinemark locations, advance ticket purchases and show time information can be found at www.cinemark.com.
