Seeking a Friend for the End of the WOrld posterThe first trailer and poster have been released for the upcoming Steve Carell and Keira Knightley film called Seeking a Friend for the End of the World. Fancying itself a bit different than most end-of-the-world flicks, this one is written and directed by Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist screenwriter Lorene Scafaria, so we know it's going to be an odd little indie tale with plenty of heart and humor.

The comedy stars Steve Carell and Keira Knightley as Dodge and Penny and is set in a not-too-distant future that is about to be destroyed by an asteroid. Finding himself facing life alone in Earth's final weeks, Dodge embarks on a road trip to reunite with his long lost high school flame.

While it will be interesting to see how Scafaria handles herself behind the camera in her directorial debut, (and Carell can always be counted on for a great woe-is-me character) we're particularly excited to see what Patton Oswalt brings to the table in the follow-up to his wonderful turn in last year's Young Adult in which he played a now-grown high school outcast opposite Charlize Theron. The film looks fun and appears to include a delicious mix of awkward comedy and somber drama. Upon first glance Carell and Knightley display a nice chemistry together. All the proper ingredients seem to be there, but how will Scafaria do in putting them all together? Time will tell
