Bridesmaids - Movie ReviewFinally, the kind of movie sequel news we like to hear. Not typically a practitioner of the "discretion is the better part of valor" ideology, Hollywood is showing a bit of unexpected bravery with word coming down that Kristen Wiig et. al. are taking a pass on collaborating once again for a follow-up to the wildly popular raunch-com Bridesmaids.

Speaking in an E!Online interview, Wiig offered the following with regards to her involvement in another Bridesmaids project: "We're not planning on doing one. We had a special time making the first one, but we're really excited to try something else. It's going to be a little bit of a different tone, but it's going to be a comedy, for sure." While that's certainly good news for our fellow "Fight the Sequel" crusaders, it doesn't mean we can't totally count out the Hollywood suits from assembling a new comedy troupe and running the film's sweet clean reputation, well, you know what we mean, through the mud with a three-picture deal that extends through 2015.

But even Bridesmaids producer Judd Apatow doesn't think a Wiigless Bridesmaids 2 will see the light of day. Speaking at the Golden Globes, Apatow said that unless he and his fellow creative minds can come up with a good idea on their own, he doesn't see a sequel happening. Could this really mean that Hollywood is turning its back on the lure of a fast buck? Or will it just move forward with a hastily produced Wiigless and Apatowless sequel that hopes to find legs on the brand alone? We think we know the answer.

The other good bit of news to be taken from Wiig's statement is that the Bridesmaids brain trust will indeed be collaborating on a new comedy project. Now, that's what we like to hear.
