The Hangover 2 trailer pulled from theatersThe Hangover Part 2 trailer, which hit the internet last week and was featured primarily before Source Code, has been pulled from theaters.

Warner Bros and the MPAA recently sent out a note to all theaters, instructing them to stop showing The Hangover 2 trailer and to remove all digital copies of it from servers. They were also notified that a new copy of the trailer will be sent in replacement and attached to Scream 4 which opens next week on the 15th.

Slash Film got their hands on a photocopy of the document (pictured below), but received a proverbial "no comment" from the studio when asked to elaborate on its directive.

The trailer's release has generated a lot of buzz, most of it positive, although some (including us) are still wondering if the impression left by the trailer of the film being just a rehash of the first is accurate. So, it would seem logical that the studio would want to pull the trailer and cut a new one to change the perception. However, if the MPAA is getting its dirty mits in the fray, the trouble certainly has to be with some of the trailer's sketchy content, including the use of the words "whore", "bitches", insinuated under-aged drinking, and Galifianakis' shenanigans with a water bottle and a monkey (OK, that sounded much worse than it actually is).

Regardless, the trailer still lives on the internet and will be interesting to see what comes of the new version. The Hangover 2 will release to theaters across the country on May 26th.

UPDATE: Warner issued a statement to THR regarding the trailer's sudden removal from theaters: "In our haste to meet the placement schedule for this trailer, we failed to properly vet the final version with the MPAA. We acted immediately to correct the mistake and removed the trailer from screens." So, there you have it. It had gone unrated by the MPAA.
