Shawn Levy - Fantastic Voyage20th Century Fox recently announced that Shawn Levy has been selected to helm the reimagining of the 1966 science fiction classic, Fantastic Voyage.

Deadline reports that numerous directors were considered for the project, including such luminaries as Paul Greengrass, Darren Aronofsky, Timur Bekmambetov, Jonathan Mostow and Louis Leterrier, before producer James Cameron finally landed on Levy.

Seems a bit odd to go with the comedic director (Night at the Museum, Cheaper By the Dozen, What Happens in Vegas) over the others considered, but we suppose the huge bags of money the Museum franchise brought to the studio likely provided the needed leverage.

The sci-fi classic Fantastic Voyage, that starred Raquel Welch and Donald Pleasance, featured a team of scientists shrunk in a ship and injected into a colleague's body in an attempt to save his life. Cameron and the studio have been moving in an extremely calculated manner due to the film's expectedly gargantuan budget. Plans are to go 100% CGI once the scientists enter the body. the script is by Shane Salerno.
