Well, go ahead and fork out the bucks and pick it up because Scott's Alien prequel has now changed gears and won't be produced as a prequel. Apparently it will now be treated as an original sci-fi movie titled Prometheus.

The ill-fated project will star Noomi Rapace, she of the Swedish version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, as a scientist named Elizabeth Shaw. Scott has been making contributions to Lindelof's screenplay, which somewhere along the line morphed into something new.

"While Alien was indeed the jumping off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place," said Scott. "The keen fan will recognize strands of Alien's DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative. I couldn't be more pleased to have found the singular tale I'd been searching for, and finally return to this genre that's so close to my heart."

Prometheus is slated for a March 2012 release.

The Alien Anthology Blu-ray box set started out in the $150 range but is now selling on Amazon.com for about $60. Not a bad time to pick one up. Read what we think about The Alien Anthology Blu-ray Box Set.
