Genevieve

Genevieve is completely CRACKERS and I love it!

Nicholas Michael Jacobs, independent film director of Night, Urban Fears, and Tales from Six Feet Under, is back with his latest horror/comedy, Genevieve.  This time out his take on the whole Annabelle doll haunting series of flicks gets served rather devilishly in what amounts to a horror anthology that is framed by a screenwriter’s aborted attempts to create a new project.

"Disturbing and edgy, this POV single camera shoot is at times hilarious and completely on point"

The poor writer (played by Jacobs himself) can’t seem to get anything but half-baked ideas out on his computer, but - with each new story - there is one constant: Genevieve and her violent intentions with his characters.  Voiced by Alan Maxson (Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Blade: The Iron Cross), Genevieve is a supernaturally possessed doll with murder on her mind.  She’s not a beauty, but that’s the point because this doll, with upturned lips (are they burnt?) and REAL-looking teeth in its wide open mouth, loves to bite and chew its way through human flesh.

Disturbing and edgy, this POV single camera shoot is at times hilarious and completely on point as a screenwriter becomes the object of that which he creates.  Sure, the dialogue is in short supply as this is mainly a one character at a time show, but it works double time in creating a solid atmosphere of terror as the creepy crawlies come peeping from around corners, completely in the shadows.  The gnashing of the teeth?  That's the doll herself and she's hungry for some human flesh!

With each new draft a story emerges with some solid POV camerawork (which seems to be Jacobs specialty) as we claw our way into the writer’s imagination and then come screaming out.  With a killer doll on the loose, there’s no way we should stick around!  Genevieve is fun and, at times, refreshing with its solid FX work and its commitment to making all the Horror Hounds out there grin a little.Genevieve

Don’t believe me?  Just pay attention to the plastic blue bin that our writer turns to in the basement of his house.  It’s packed with a lot of cool props that he hopes will inspire some great writing . . . and if we can’t have great stories to tell, maybe the solid kills will aid in the digestion of this low budget gem.  What else is buried in there?!?!

Professional looking and completed at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, Genevieve and the stories she chooses to tell us is a solid collection of thrills, chills, and spills.  Complete with a great electronic score, writer/director Nicholas Michael Jacobs returns with yet another solid offering of popcorn-munching horror!

Genevieve will be released exclusively on Vimeo on August 13th, but it is available NOW for pre-order at https://vimeo.com/ondemand/genevieve.
