The Demon Inside

Doors slam shut on their own.  Dark figures lurk in the shadows.  Unnatural images in the mirror.  This is a movie, quite literally, about all the haunted skeletons in one man’s closet and, as it takes its time with the build-up, makes for a HELL of a ride through the darkest night of the soul.

"as it takes its time with the build-up, makes for a HELL of a ride through the darkest night of the soul."

Because these skeletons ALL come to life with The Demon Inside!

What begins as a possible home invasion movie ends in a supernatural bloodbath as one couple, Sam (Joseph Rene) and Courtney Parsons (Madeline Thelton), try to outrun AND survive the haunted past.  It’s all in an effort to protect their daughter, Harper (Chloe Lee), whose cuteness threatens to steal the movie away from Rene time and time again, as she is put in some pretty scary situations involving a monster under the bed.

You see, Sam is on a very tight leash in his personal life.  He’s an ex-con and everybody knows it.  His boss is a jerk and sometimes, Courtney, is as well.  Maybe they both want what is best for Sam, but it’s hard to tell as his boss is a constant thorn and Sam’s relationship with Courtney seems to be on the rocks.  There’s definitely tension there.

But when it comes to the rising occult action in the house, it’s all about protecting Harper, right?  So, when their home’s security system goes off in the middle of the night, it’s all hands on deck and the heightened sense of alarm doesn’t ever fade because this demon is JUST GETTING STARTED.The Demon Inside

Has Sam’s past caught up with him?  If only.  The Demon Inside, while stressing the past, concerns itself with a demonic possession inside the house.  Something WILD is going on, but whatever Sam and Courtney do to try to quell the growing demon only makes it stronger.

From Writer/Director Joey Moran, The Demon Inside might not be thought-provoking but it is INTENSE as its spills and chills are built solidly with long takes throughout the 100-minute movie and the nice use of tall, tall shadows.  Maybe this film is a bit too long, but it certainly works if you throw logic out the window and have fun with its independent vibes.

From beginning to end, Moran builds suspense with a growing sense of dread for this couple.  And then, when all else fails, Sam and Courtney turn to a hilarious team of ghost hunters.  It doesn’t help matters.  With this group of characters, Moran eases up the tension as this ghost hunting team hearkens all too often to a VERY PUBLIC team and, thankfully, pokes fun at the world of paranormal, reality-based entertainment programs and their massive (but easily bruised) egos.

The Demon Insid , filmed in Dallas and produced by Timothy Talbott (who also has a fun role in the movie) is now playing on Amazon Prime.
