Birds of Prey

Hey, Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. You just got smacked.

With an incredibly lengthy (and remarkably strange) title that rivals some of the longest in Hollywood history, Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) began filming last week. And to commemorate the moment and to whet the appetites of those who felt that Harley Quinn was the best thing about 2016's Suicide Squad, the film just released a short teaser trailer which you can watch below.

"After splitting up with the Joker, Harley Quinn joins three female superheroes - Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya - to save the life of a little girl (Cassandra Cain) from an evil crime lord."

The film stars Margot Robbie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Ewan McGregor and others and is set within the DC Universe and based upon the DC comics team Birds of Prey. The story picks up after the events that went down in Suicide Squad which left Gotham unprotected from crime and Quinn separated from The Joker.

The trailer – at a scant 20 seconds – is merely a a teaser of a teaser type thingy with no dialogue, but does manage to cram a lot of stuff in its short runtime. In the trailer we see Quinn decked out in a newly updated outfit while sucking on a lollipop and sipping on a colorful cocktail. In addition, we get some VERY brief glances at the film's various characters including Winstead's Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell's Black Canary, and the slightest of glimpses at McGregor's Black Mask. And that's about it! {googleads}

The film is scheduled for release next year on February 7th. It is very much a female empowerment affair, and as such, is being directed by Cathy Yan who is working from a script by Christina Hodson. It will find its way to theaters via Warner Bros. distribution.
