Stacey Keach will join the cast of The Bourne Legacy (still think this is an ill-advised move on Universal's behalf) playing someone connected to the Treadstone organization from the original trilogy. Jeremy Renner stars, and an impressive cast, including Edward Norton and Rachel Weisz and returning cast from the trilogy Joan Allen and Albert Finney, are giving this the best shot of rising above a simple cash in.

MTV says that Steven Soderbergh might be lending a hand to old buddy, Gary Ross, acting as a second unit director on the hastily produced Hunger Games film adaptation. Still shooting, the film is due in cinemas March 23, 2012. Talk about a fast production.

Thor 2 has a release date already: July 26, 2013, but has yet to get a director, with Kenneth Brannagh opting not to continue with the franchise. Variety is claiming that the frontrunner to fill the director's chair is Brian Kirk, the director of Game of Thrones. Writer Don Payne claimes that the sequel will see Thor (again played by Chris Hemsworth) surrounded by many more Aasgardians and Norse mythological creatures.

Wouldn't be a 2011 news update without mention of yet another remake, would it? A new director, Tim Hill (who brought us Chipmunks and Smurfs) is said to be the new man helming the Short Circuit remake. He replaces Steve Carr, who was originally attached to direct. Dimension films are hoping to get the project, which has been spinning it's heels in development for the last couple of years, up and running quickly.

Hightower has left us! Sad news: former NFL star and Police Academy mainstay, Bubba Smith, has died aged 66. His body was found by a caretaker in Los Angeles on August 4. Although no offical cause of death has yet been released, it is believe the 6'7 gentle giant passed of natural causes. Rest in peace, big guy.

Horror remake specialist, Alexandere Aja, is being courted to helm the redo of Stephen King's Pet Semetary. Matt Greenberg (1408) penned the new script, and Paramount is reportedly eager to snag the reliable director to bring it home.

Lawrence Fishburne has been announced as the new Daily Planet Editor Perry White in Superman: Man of Steel. Being that White has always been a caucasian man, this is a surprising announcement but evidence that Warners are going all out to refresh the franchise and not be tied down by what has come before. Whether this news goes down well with Superman purists is yet to be seen. This is Fishburne's first cinematic role since leaving CSI. Superman: Man of Steel, is due in cinemas June, 2013.
