ttack of the Unknown

Yes! Yes! Yes!  The Mahal Brothers with writer/director Brandon Slagle (Crossbreed) are back in action!

The B-minded exploitation hits hard at the beginning of Attack of the Unknown as the SWAT team at the center of this LA-bound flick takes out a heinous drug lord and his gang members.  For about 20-minutes we are with this team of fast-quipping badasses as they carry out a violent raid on the hellish streets of The City of Angels.  The drug-runners are caught by surprise and gutted left and right as the bullets zip through a shadowed warehouse tearing flesh and bones.

"a loaded slice of science fiction pizza pie"

It’s a brutal opening that involves a lot of guns, sex, and an endless barrage of explosions.  With the job complete, the cigar-chomping team hits the strip club, downing beer after beer, but - wait for it - the very NEXT day they are battling aliens. Wait, what?!?!

I absolutely LOVE it when genre films go BOLD and do mash-ups that, without the proper attitude and swagger, would absolutely fail BIG TIME . . . especially if a major studio got their hands on the project.  It’s a good thing then that The Mahal Brothers, Michael and Sonny, who are responsible for the AWESOME mayhem of Bus Party to Hell in 2017 and last year’s Art of the Dead, continue to ride the wind with independent filmmaking because their latest offering, Attack of the Unknown, is a definite MUST-SEE in a changed world of pandemics and Pentagon-approved declassified UFO cases.  This movie is EXACTLY what 2020 needed.

Attack of the Unknown, loaded with exceptional violence and nudity, delivers a movie that serves a thrilling purpose on two fronts as bullets pierce the walls and UFOs fly overhead as a SWAT team - in the middle of a prisoner transfer - finds out just how deadly close encounters of the third kind can be. ttack of the Unknown

And the warning of things to come arrives with a child’s drawings.  Too bad no one knows exactly what they are depicting.  Aliens are among us!  This genre mash-up isn't afraid of tackling the galaxy or the grit!

Starring Robert LaSardo (CSI: Miami, Psych: The Movie, Death Race, Nip/Tuck, The Mule), Richard Grieco (21 Jump Street), and Jolene Andersen (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Attack of the Unknown is a loaded slice of science fiction pizza pie.  The movie, with its excellent handling of tension (and otherworldly aliens) thanks to cinematographer Michael Su, is endlessly satisfying as its cast brings the action - you know, “real cop shit” - and the drama  - as a mothership appears over Los Angeles and starts blowing things up - to life.

Soon enough, the mounting odds that are piling against this team of cops and prisoners sees them having to team up in order to survive the unexpected alien invasion and that’s when the film absolutely EXPLODES into two fists of fabulous fury.  Unique, fabulous, and completely off its rocker, Attack of the Unknown is B-movie glory that makes exquisite use of some keen kernels of creativity AND Universal Studios’ backlot in its march to VOD glory.

Attack of the Unknown, complete with a cameo from Tara Reid (making her appearances a solid 3 for 3 for The Mahal Brothers), arrives on August 28 on all major VOD platforms.  Beam this one up!
