Hot peppers! An abandoned Nazi bunker…in California! Horny hog mutants! And two assassins with time on their hands! An Hour to Kill has it all!
Knowing that, it is the story about a biker bowling team on the hunt for “hogs” to pork (pun intended) that seals the deal on this crime/horror anthology for me. In that story, three “redneckonized” gentlemen of the road try to pull a fast one over a potential new recruit when they go “hog” hunting. This special night backfires rather quickly and, without going into too many details, these same fine gentlemen get their short and curlies facing, well, ass up. What a predicament!
I’m going to confess to you all LOUDLY that I LOVE this movie. Everything about this wonky flick screams gonzo greatness. It is low rent in its style and its taste but NONE of its limitations cause it to misstep along the way. There’s no winning you over. You either get it from the start or you bounce.
The film, including the acting, is usually funny as shit. The producer/writer/director of Dead Kansas, Aaron Carter, returns to the scene of the crime with his newest film, An Hour to Kill, and KILL IT he does.
The film is broken into three inner tales of woe and wrath. It is; however, framed by ONE narrative concerning TWO hitmen, the perfectly cast Frankie Pozos as Frankie and Aaron Guerrero as Gio, who discover that their latest assignment leaves them with an hour to kill. But WHO is the intended target?
What follows is a drive through Hollywood as these two assassins stuff their faces full of tasty Mexican food (of which I am currently missing) and swap tales about Nazi killers in America circa 1981 (“Valkyrie’s Bunker”), a prank that BUTTfires in the grossest of ways possible (“Assacre”), and grubbing through the dirt and mud for wild hogs (“Hog Hunters”). In the hour, they also share information that becomes key to the moving plot of An Hour to Kill, as Carter and his crew introduce us to all sorts of AWESOME characters and the actors who bring them to life.
B-movie enthusiasts will also be in for a treat thanks to the inclusion of Mel Novak (An Eye for an Eye, Game of Death, Tom Horn to name a few titles he starred in) as Gio and Frankie’s pissed-off boss, Mr. Kinski. And Kinski should be angry. After all, his nemesis is still on the loose and there’s a rat in his organization. Well, it is now time to weed out the suspect. But the heavily tattooed gangster Arash (Arash Dibazar) has other plans for Kinski and his crew.
With a swinging machine gun-like attitude and witty dialogue to match, An Hour to Kill never disappoints thanks to its wink and its massively large smile as it takes to the streets. The cast, including Vince Kelvin, Amanda Rau, Jola Cora, Stephanie Strehlow, Sarah Gordy, Alexya Garcia, Gabriel Mercado, Brian Reagan, Brendan Mitchell, Luna Meow, Cal Alexander, Joe McQueen, Michael Camp and Chris Morris - add dimensions so incredibly odd and perfect that to even be critical of the performances becomes ridiculous. This film exists in its own atmosphere. It might be all over the map when it comes to structure and performances, with most of the actors adding to the howling good time and sheer madness of it all, but it is always down to party. Seriously. 
There’s simply no reason to knock this low budget film. I mean, one look at the manic performance from Pozos – in several different roles here – and you will either get this Fred Olen Rey-like crime story of Sam Raimi-esque horror and human filth or simply back the fuck away. Slowly. Without making a noise, please. Because those of us who do “get” flicks like this one are always HUNGRY and we don’t like to be disturbed…
