Birdman - Best Film of 2014 Kansas City

The Kansas City Film Critics Circle has named Birdman as the Best Film of 2014 at the 48th annual Loutzenhiser Awards. The 25 members of the second oldest film critics group in the United States voted on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2014. Directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, the film garnered Best Actor for Michael Keaton; Best Supporting Actor for Edward Norton; and Best Original Screenplay for Alejandro González Iñárritu, Nicolás Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris, and Armando.

While the voting was close, Richard Linklater’s Boyhood – a film that took 12 years to make - was the only other film to be chosen for more than one award. Richard Linklater won the Robert Altman Award for Best Director and Patricia Arquette was named Best Supporting Actress. The KCFCC also named The Babadook as the winner of the Vince Koehler Award for Best Science Fiction Film of the year.

 The Kansas City Film Critics Circle  was founded by Dr. James Loutzenhiser in 1966 as the Kansas City Film Circle Awards, and is the second oldest professional film critics’ association in the United States, after the New York Film Critics Circle.  As of July, 2014, the KCFCC had 26 active members representing print, radio, television and online media outlets.
