What Men Want - Movie Trailer

If this year's Amy Schumer comedy I Feel Pretty didn't do anything for you (and for most it didn't), then perhaps Taraji P. Henson's take on the hit-on-the-head life-outlook-turnabout will blow your skirt up. {googleads}

Paramount Pictures just released the first trailer for What Men Want which is a direct remake of the 2000 film called What Women Want that starred Mel Gibson, except we have a woman in the lead role in the person of Taraji P. Henson and a gender-updated title. You can watch the trailer below.

This time around, instead of a male chauvinistic ad exec with the ability to read women's minds, we have a hot-shot female sports agent who, due to a fluke accident, becomes "cursed" with the ability to hear what others are thinking. But counter to Gibson's lead character in What Women Want, Hensons Ali Davis is only able to hear what men are thinking. Of course, she eventually learns to fight through the clutter of the voices in her head and turn the frustration into an advantage once she learns how to utilize her newfound ability to outsmart her alpha male colleagues. And from the looks of it, we get comedy hijinks along the way.

What Men Want, which hits theaters early next year on January 11, 2019, is the latest comedy from director Adam Shankman (Hairspray) and co-stars Tracy Morgan, Richard Roundtree, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Josh Brener, Tamala Jones, Phoebe Robinson, Max Greenfield, Jason Jones, Brian Bosworth, Chris Witaske and Erykah Badu.

Cameron Diaz was rumored for years to have the lead in the female remake before the project eventually fell apart. Henson was named the new star last year and it has been full steam ahead ever since.

There's some kind of oddly satisfying irony in seeing not only a female-led version of the premise, but one that replaces Mel Gibson, whose well-documented sexist and anti-semitic remarks landed him on the hot seat years ago.

*Update: It's never a good sign when a studio schedules a film's release in the January dumping ground. Very few films have found success there. It is an even worse sign when the studio changes a film's release from the January dumping ground to the February dumping ground, which is exactly what Paramount just did. The film is now scheduled to release wide on February 9th, 2019.
