Shot on video, meta as hell, and directed by Ron Bonk, Vicious Sweet is psychological terror straight from VHS Hell. The film begins with a super sexy make-out session in the woods. I mean these two lovebirds are really going at it. Tongue swapping and head rotating galore. Not even the hum from the nearby power plant will get them to stop.
There is a nuclear power plant nearby and, yes, there has been an incident there recently. Radiation Blues, you know. But these two kids can’t stop kissing long enough to notice that there is something bloody and foul creeping up on them. The hazmatted “mutant monstroided freak” grabs the boy by the balls before the girl repeatedly beats the creature with her bare hands.
But this is a false start. It turns out that this beginning is actually not for the movie, but the start of a movie that a popular movie scream queen star Tyler Phenix (Sasha Graham, who is the star of Vicious Sweet), is currently starring in. And she hates it. That’s right, Miss Phenix is finally done with popularity. She wants to grow as an actor and not continue to make shitty B-movies.
But that is not where her career is at. Too many people are profiting off of her tits and ass and she knows it. Enter then her biggest fan: a man of many moods and many masks. HE knows everything about her. Everything. And he gets off reminding her of every little thing that she has EVER done. Projecting one of her porno films against the wall as she struggles to get unchained from the bed, Miss Phenix struggles to understand why this is happening.
While suffering from low quality and not enough lighting, Vicious Sweet is actually a film that gets by on its high conceptual frame and its decent acting. Graham’s acting will win you over as her character is handcuffed to a bed and forced to remember all that she has forgotten.
Say what you want to about SOV flicks; this one is pretty damn good and it all hinges on Graham’s AMAZING performance. Star of Addicted to Murder and Polymorph, Graham manages to slip into the starlet at the center of this flick with an uncanny flair for the real. There’s even a couple of really well thought-out out shots, including one that swings like a pendulum as her kidnapper paces in her room.
Direct-to-Video doesn’t always mean lo-fi and uber cheap B-movie shit. In the case of the Vicious Sweet, it simply means that creativity thrives best on the dollar side of the cinematic menu. And, boy, does this flick ever deliver an intense journey into a bizarre character study.
Vicious Sweet, using the original Betacam SP master by SRS Cinema, exists so you never have to dance alone again. Full of creepy crawlies and solid makeup effects, this movie is a reminder of just how fun the SOV era was.

Transferred from the original original Betacam SP master by SRS Cinema, this blu-ray release is strictly for the depraved like me. Presented in good spirits, the 1.33:1 full screen image is as pretty shitty as you can imagine. Colors are never bright. The contrast is never clear and the picture is one big ball of fuzzed out pixels. Nothing is crisp and the black levels bleed like the fake blood flicked at the screen in all the death scenes. The sound is presented in an effective Dolby Digital Mono soundtrack.
