Rise of the Planet of the Apes - Teaser trailerMany weren't taking the new Planet of the Apes movie seriously until a creepy little 4-second clip hit the web back in April giving us a rather unsettling first look at one of the apes in Rupert Wyatt's revisit of the Planet of the Apes franchise (as a prequel) called Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

A WETA Livestream video interview and a teaser trailer released shortly thereafter gave us a better look at the special effects that will be used to create the film's hundreds of apes via the same motion-capture technology used in Peter Jackson's King Kong back in 2005. We then began to believe this thing could actually turn out to be a pleasant sci-fi surprise.

20th Century Fox has released a new official trailer for Rise of the Planet of the Apes that includes most of the footage we've already, seen but also throws in some new scenes and reveals more about the plot. They seem to be doing it right, and with the stuff we see in the new trailer as well as the life-like execution of the cgi-semians (although they don't look 100% right) Rise of the Apes is looking more and more like a spooky little cautionary tale that shouldn't be overlooked.

Check out her trailer below or head over to Yahoo! Movies where you an watch it in hi-def.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes stars James Franco, Tom Felton, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, and Andy Serkis as the lead ape, Caesar. The film is about a young scientist (Franco) who, while testing an Alzheimer's cure on apes, befriends one of his subjects named Caesar which results in unexpected consequences. Rise of the Planet of the Apes will hit theaters everywhere on August 5th of this year.
