Mother - Trailer

Paramount just released the first full-length trailer for Darren Aranofsky’s latest called Mother. And boy, is it a doozy!

Fans of the filmmaker will immediately notice many of Aranofsky’s signature flourishes. From the hip-hop montages to extreme closeups, to long tracking shots, it’s all there. But what is surprising is that the accomplished director is taking on genre filmmaking with what appears to be a straight-up horror flick despite the studio calling it a “psychological thriller.” Whatever we agree to call it though, the feeling we get from the trailer (and the teaser that was introduced a few days ago), is certainly an unsettling one.

The film stars Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem as what initially appears to be a loving couple setting up their beautiful new home. The "are you happies?" and "I love yous" are shattered by a blood spot on the rug. Then a mysterious visitor (Ed Harris) knocks on the front door. All seems to go to hell from there, as unknown visitors continue to show up, blood appears on the walls, and everyone seems to be in cahoots against Lawrence’s character. What are they up to? What is the yellow liquid? Who are these visitors? What do they want? Are they zombies?

All are questions still to be answered, but one thing we know for sure: there’s going to be a psychological mind-fuck element to it all. After all, this is from the master of psychological mind-fucks. Enjoy the first trailer for Darren Aranofsky's Mother below:
