Casting Jonbenet - Movie Trailer

Though the film had its premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival back in January, Netflix has just debuted the trailer for its original documentary called Casting Jonbenet. And we have it below.

The film, directed by editor/director Kitty Green (The Face of Ukraine: Casting Oksana Baiul), is one of those documentary/drama hybrid films that features actual footage coupled with scripted segments and interviews from the local cast as they share memories of the widely-publicized murder of child beauty pageant queen JonBenet Ramsey in her Boulder, Colorado home on the night of December 25-26 in 1996.

The hook here is that Green features snippets of interviews from each member of the potential cast as they recollect how the murder affected them personally and speculate on who they believe committed the horrific crime. Interspersed with the interviews are dramatic scenes that recreate the environment and events leading up to the murder with chilling effect.

Was it the mother Patsy Ramsey, the father John, or then nine-year-old brother Burke who killed the young pageant queen? Many of the cast members speculate in interviews and offer their own personal thoughts on the murder that shook Boulder and made young sleuths out of nearly every American back in 1996.

In one particularly effective sequence, young Hannah Cagwin, who is auditioning for the part of Jonbenet, looks directly at the camera and asks the viewers if they know who killed Jonbenet. If that doesn't lure you in, you may not have a pulse.

Casting Jonbenet will be available on Netflix on April 28, 2017.
