meg lgNow that the blood in the water has begun to settle to a watered-down pink, it is time to start thinking about letting The Meg come play in our home theaters. And to make that happen, Warner Home Video has just announced the details of their 4K Ultra HD/Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital HD release of the underwater shark thriller The Meg.

You will have your chance to go head-to-head with the largest prehistoric shark when The Meg becomes available to own in high definition and standard definition from select digital retailers including Amazon, FandangoNow, iTunes, PlayStation, Vudu, Xbox and others on October 30th followed by the 4K and Blu-ray debut on November 13th.

"A deep-sea submersible—part of an international undersea observation program—has been attacked by a massive creature and now lies disabled at the bottom of the deepest part of the Pacific Ocean…with its crew trapped inside. With time running out, former deep-sea rescue diver Jonas Taylor (Jason Statham) is drawn out of self-imposed exile by a visionary Chinese oceanographer, Dr. Zhang (Winston Chao), against the wishes of his daughter, Suyin (Li Bingbing), who thinks she can rescue the crew on her own. But it will take their combined efforts to save the crew, and the ocean itself, from this seemingly unstoppable threat—a prehistoric 75-foot-long shark known as the Megalodon. Thought to be extinct, the Meg turns out to be very much alive…and on the hunt."

The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc of The Meg will feature Dolby VisionTM HDR that dramatically expands the color palette and contrast range and uses dynamic metadata to automatically optimize the picture for every screen, frame by frame. The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc of The Meg will also feature a Dolby Atmos® soundtrack remixed specifically for the home theater environment.

The Meg is directed by Jon Turteltaub who works from a script by Dean Georgaris and Jon and Erich Hoeber, and stars Jason Statham, Rainn Wilson (The Office), Ruby Rose (John Wick: Chapter 2), Winston Chao (Skiptrace), and Page Kennedy (TV’s Rush Hour). {googleads}

Unfortunately it appears that The Meg’s appetite will be much bigger than its bite as all that will be available on the 4K UHD Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD Special Edition will be a “making of” featurette and a look at the creation of the meg creature itself. That’s it. No 3D, no 3D/4K combo pack. Just two featurettes. While the film wasn’t the hit Warner had for with the critics, it did very well at the box office with a $525 million chomp so there’s really no valid explanation as to why they aren’t spending more time with this one for home theaters.meg lg

The technical specs and bonus features break down as follows:

  • Dolby Vision Presentation
  • Dolby Atmos Ausio Track
  • Chomp On This: The Making Of The Meg
  • Creating The Beast

Subtitles include: Optional English, Latin Spanish, Parisian French, and Brazilian Portuguese for the main feature
