Slave of the Cannibal God - Blu-ray

Lewd! Rude! Gutted and STEWED!  Because you can't look away!!!

There are still lifeforms living in the jungles of New Guinea that we know nothing about.  New species are routinely being discovered, too.  To suggest that there it an unknown tribe of cannibals living beneath its thick canopy of hot and steamy foliage isn’t as far-fetched as it sounds.  After all, it was only a few short years ago that over 200 new species were discovered in that dense jungle.  And that fact alone makes Slave of the Cannibal God, an Italian flick from 1978, a thrilling rescue attempt of a previously soured video nasty.

"If barbaric tortures are your cinematic delights, then Slave of the Cannibal God should be dancing for you"

When you strip away the violence and the crunching of human flesh, what you have in this movie is writer/director Sergio Martino’s attempt to make a thrilling adventure film.  In fact, so much of the movie – starring Stacy Keach, Ursula Andress, and Claudio Cassinelli – is about a voyage downstream to the mountain Ra Ra Me to find a missing anthropologist.  Maybe.  Dig a little deeper, though, and the real reasons are far less...humane.

What happens along the way – involving REAL footage of cobras, anacondas, alligators, and some big ass spiders – would turn the weak away.  But not this team of foolish explorers.  They have a confidence in their surrounding that they shouldn’t have…because watching them from afar, but growing closer with each passing hour, is a cannibal tribe unlike those ever seen before.

AND THEY ARE HUNGRY.  Turns out the lizard they gutted, let bleed out, and ate wasn’t enough meat… {googleads}

Watch Ursula Andress undress!  And then again!  Then watch her get lathered all over her naked body with mud!  The fondling!  The lust!  Watch a man go to town on the tail end of a pig with his tiny dick!  Watch another man get his member chopped off for messing with Andress in her ceremonial garb.  That is the degradation that awaits you in this happy little flick.

Released especially through Ronin Flix, the blu-ray release of Slave of the Cannibal God features a new HD scan with hours upon hours of restoration.  The images on the screen look damn appealing, especially if you have ever seen other copies of the film. The grain is there but the images are so good and so pure in their HD goodness.  They are next to godliness.

Slave of the Cannibal God - Blu-ray

Trashterpiece Theater gets a new gloss with this release from Code Red.  Fans of the film will definitely not be let down by the beauty on display here.  I dare say that Sri Lanka (where the film was photographed) has never looked this vibrant and the story isn’t half bad either.  It is exciting and loaded with gnarly surprises that few will be able to stomach.

The initial release of the Blu-ray includes a Limited-Edition slipcover with artwork by Devon Whitehead and will be available only while supplies last.  If barbaric tortures are your cinematic delights, then Slave of the Cannibal God should be dancing for you.

Do not wait to score this BIG B-movie release right now!

Wow!. Code Red delivers a darling of a 4K restoration here. With a new scan of the original camera negative, fans of this flesh-eating trashterpiece have something to celebrate. The images are crisp and detailed and retain their edges. Framed in a tight 1:78:1 aspect ratio, this 1080p transfer is good, good stuff. Colors are bold. Shadows run deep and the crisp textures in the walls and in the backgrounds of this leafy jungle are focused. The DTS-HD mono soundtrack is perfectly suited for the film.
