Approx. 11:15pm: On Flamingo Road, near the intersection of Koval Lane, a white 4-door cadillac with California plates rolls up to the passenger side of the BMW. According to one witness, two men got out of the Cadillac and fire 13 rounds from a Glock .40 caliber handgun at the BMW from less than 13 feet away. Tupac Shakur, sitting in the passenger side of the car, is hit three times, one striking his hip, another his right hand, with the fatal wound to his chest. According to the witness, Tupac Shakur attempts to jump into the back seat of the car as he is being shot but Suge pulls him down into the seat. Two tires are punctured in the barrage of gunfire. Knight suffers a minor wound to his head or neck. Suge turns to Tupac and asks "Are you OK Pac?" Tupac Shakur, after seeing blood on Knight's head says, "Me? You're the one shot in the mutha-fuckin' head!"

11:16pm: Knight makes a U-turn on Flamingo, races west to Las Vegas Boulevard, makes a left turn. After encountering heavy traffic on the strip Knight's car hits the median blowing out a third tire and comes to a stop near the intersection of Harmon Avenue.

11:16 - 11:20pm: Up to 20 police officers arrive at the scene

Approx. 11:30pm: An ambulance arrives and whisks Tupac Shakur and Knight to University Medical Center. As Tupac is being removed from the vehicle he repeats, "I can't breathe, I can't breathe."

September 13, 1996; 4:03pm: Tupac Shakur dies from his wounds six days after being placed into a medically induced coma.

Suge Knight at the HospitalThe Witnesses
One of Tupac Shakur's backup rappers who witnessed the fatal shooting of the hip-hop star was gunned down in a New Jersey housing project days after tupac was shot. So far, police are saying that the slaying of 19-year-old Yafeu Fula has no connection with Tupac's death

But Fula's death will further stymie the slow-moving murder investigation. "It's another dead end for us," said Las Vegas police Sgt. Kevin Manning, the lead investigator

Police found Fula at 3:48 a.m. Sunday in a housing project. He was shot once in the head and was pronounced dead later that afternoon at a nearby hospital

Two suspects, both juveniles, were arrested and are being questioned by Orange police. "As far as we know, at this time, there is no connection" to Shakur, said Capt. Richard Conte

Fula, a member of Yupac Shakur's backing group Outlaw Immortalz, was riding with bodyguards in the car behind Shakur when the rapper was shot by unknown assailants returning from the Tyson-Bruce fight September 7 in Las Vegas. Police questioned Fula after the drive-by, but, like others in the Death Row Records entourage, he subsequently refused to cooperate with police.

The one bright spot in an otherwise dire news week at Death Row came courtesy of Shakur's posthumous album, The Don Killuminati--The 7 Day Theory. Recorded under the alias Makaveli, the collection entered the charts at No. 1, with incredibly strong sales of 664,000 copies.

CASE UPDATE: Based on new evidence - which has not been made public - a task force consisting of local Los Angeles and national law enforcement officials has recently begun re-investigating the murder of rap artist Christopher Wallace (a.k.a. Biggie, Biggie Smalls, Notorious B.I.G.) more than a decade after he was gunned down on the streets in Los Angeles.

Biggie, from the bedford-Stuyvesant area of Brooklyn took 4 bullets to the chest as he was leaving a Soul Train Awards afterparty. he was later pronounced dead after not responding to treatment at L.A.'s Cedars-Sinai Hospital.

In the 13 years since his death, there have been many rumors speculating on the identity and motive of Biggie's killer, with the most widely accepting being that the shooting was a retaliation for the murder of Death Row Records founder and rapper Tupac Shakur who was shot in 1996 on the streets of Las Vegas. Former LAPD detective Russell Poole, who was involved in the 1997 investigation, maintains the belief that Wallace's murder was ordered by Death Row Records' co-founder and former CEO, Marion "Suge" Knight. "Suge Knight ordered the hit," says Poole, alleging that David Mack, a former LAPD officer, was the one who fired the fatal shots.

Despite the long running imbroglio between Wallace and Tupac during the height of the East Coast-West Coast feud, the rappers' mothers, Voletta Wallace and Afeni Shakur, have denounced the culture of violence that took their sons. The couple joined voices to speak out against violence during a memorable MTV Video Awards presentation back in 1999.

Voletta Wallace told AllHipHop,"All I want, all I ever wanted, is justice for my son's death. All I ever wanted was the truth. And that's not asking too much."

Stay tuned as we're likely to hear more on the results of the investigation in the coming months. Might the actual killers of both artists be revealed once the investigation is over?
