The Peanut Butter Solution

And this is why you do NOT overdo it with peanut butter.  Thank God we can all learn from Michael’s (Matthew Mackay) messy misadventures with a lot of gooey crap and way too much peanut butter.  If David Lynch made a children’s movie, it is no stretch of the imagination to suggest that it would look and operate a lot like The Peanut Butter Solution.

"Full of lousy teachers, crazy doctors, and ghosts that reward kids for taking pity on the homeless, The Peanut Butter Solution is a movie that has it all, including Van Gogh’s great, great, great-grandson."

The Peanut Butter Solution might just be the weirdest children’s movie ever made.  And now, thanks to Severin Kids, the film that probably frightened you as a kid is on blu-ray.  I mean, seeing a kid lose all the hair on his head thanks to a haunted mansion is pretty memorable.  So, too, is the solution for getting it back.  And all of this ghostly weirdness is set to the pipes of Céline Dion as she belts out two cheesy songs.

But what did he see, you ask.  Exactly.  Poorly acted but memorable as hell, The Peanut Butter Solution is what happens when you sneak up on the ghosts who dwell in an abandoned mansion that has recently burned down and you get the fright of your life.  Trespassing is a crime, kids.  Learn it well or your hair might just fall off.  Completely.

Full of lousy teachers, crazy doctors, and ghosts that reward kids for taking pity on the homeless, The Peanut Butter Solution is a movie that has it all, including Van Gogh’s great, great, great-grandson. {googleads}

Severin Films, known for remastering and releasing sleazy trashterpieces, launches a new line of horror and just plain nutso titles aimed solely at kids with the release of The Peanut Butter Solution.  Titled Severin Kids, their debut line of cult flicks begins this Christmas with a movie that ruined an entire generation of kids with its hair-growing weirdness.  But that’s not all either, this film (with its youth shaming and its secret ghost recipes) tells viewers that life sucks and it only gets worse - especially when you mess up a spiritually-given recipe for non stop hair-growing.

Co-starring Michael Hogan, Griffith Brewer, Helen Hughes, and Siluck Saysanasy, The Peanut Butter Solution is eerie and tonally challenged.  But it is definitely unforgettable, especially when the recipe - including a fistful of kitty litter and nine spoons of soil - is given to the poor bald boy who has lost all his hair and is now the target for a hundred soccer-playing bullies to taunt.  The Peanut Butter Solution

The key ingredient to this recipe, though, is peanut butter and, if you use too much of it, there are unnatural consequences; consequences that include hair that won’t stop growing and, when your best friend discovers its magical properties, unnatural pubic hair.  But, hey, it’s The Peanut Butter Solution

What else can you expect from a children’s movie that, written and directed by Michael Rubbo (Tommy Tricker and the Stamp Traveller) goes out of its well to creep the fuck right out its audience.  With a little help from Céline Dion, The Peanut Butter Solution finally arrives on blu-ray thanks to Severin Kids efforts.  This release includes two cuts of one infamous movie and a bunch of new supplemental featurettes, too.

The Peanut Butter Solution is now available from Severin Kids.

With its premiere launch, Severin Kids presents this extremely dangerous mixture from Canada kiddie about “burning winos, sudden baldness, psychotic teachers, suburban abductions, juvenile sweatshops and the icky concoction that grows long lustrous pubes” on blu-ray thanks to this newly transferred print.

Video:

The newly transferred 4K High Definition Blu-ray presentation of The Peanut Butter Solution is on point. While it takes place mainly in a domestic and school, this 1080p transfer captures crisp details in clothing and in locations that are textured and fine. Loaded with juicy details, this is an atmospheric release that doesn’t shy away from the sunlight either. It has dark layers, yes, and those shadows are well-defined and crisp but the new transfer does not disappoint. The brand new HD master is detailed and looks better than ever. Some shots, due to the era of the day, are fuzzier than others but the image is reasonably well defined with crisp contrasts and solid textures. Colors are solid, with reds being a standout. Blacks are, too. Surprisingly, there's enough fine detail on display to make this seem revelatory. The era-ready color palette looks terrific, too.

Audio:

The disc comes with the original 2.0 Stereo Audio which is solid enough to hear Dion belt out some crappy tunes.
