Mulan (2019)

The Women's World Cup soccer match brought more than a momentous victory for the U.S. women's team. It also featured the release of the first trailer for Disney's live-action remake of its wildly popular 1998 animated movie Mulan.

We know that Disney has been releasing these live-action reboots over the last several years with Aladdin being the most recent. Well, now it is Mulan's turn. Though just a short teaser, the trailer features some beautiful footage from the film as we meet Chinese actress Yifei Liu who will don the flowing robes of the warrior princess. The 30-year-old actress who is also known as Crystal Liu is well known in her native country where she has appeared in films such as The Forbidden Kingdom and Outcast.

This Mulan remake is based upon the 1998 animated film about a Chinese girl who must disguise herself as a noble warrior in order to save her elderly father from having to join the country's military force.

Noticeably missing from this newly released trailer are a couple of characters that quickly became fan favorites from the original animated tale. We see nothing of Eddie Murphy's dragon character Mushu and the same for Mulan's lucky cricket named Cri-Kee. But we do get a look at her beautiful horse named Khan at the beginning of the trailer.{googleads}

The film is directed by Niki Caro who most recently helmed The Zookeeper's Wife, McFarland, USA, North Country, and Whale Rider. Sounds like the film couldn't be in better hands. Mulan also stars Donnie Yen, Yifei Liu, and Jet Li.

Mulan is slated to debut in American theaters on March 27 of next year. Other live-action remakes in the works by Disney are The Lion King which has already put out a couple of trailers and the most recently announced The Little Mermaid.
