Our Most Wanted on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD This Week

Holy celluloid, is this a great week for blu-ray and 4k Ultra HD releases! So much so that we’ve expanded our list of 12 Most Wanted titles this week to the 14 Most Wanted Titles. The offerings are simply that good.

Let’s start the conversation off with four titles coming to home video for the first time. The Pixar animation release of Incredibles 2 is coming home with a 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray + Digital Ultimate Collector’s Edition that contains a ton of supplemental materials. No official word from Disney as to whether this will contain the strobe-free sensory-friendly version in addition to the theatrical release.

The next film hitting home theaters for the first time this week is Spike Lee’s biographical dramedy called BlacKkKlansman which gets a shiny new 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray + Digital HD release containing an HDR presentation of the film along with a commentary and a trailer.

Also, the Disney fantasy-comedy-drama Christopher Robin will make its home video debut in the form of a blu-ray + DVD + Digital HD release from Disney/Buena Vista. This film, directed by Marc Forster and starring Ewan MCGregor as the British author A.A. Milne, will be available for purchase on November 6th. Blackkklansman - Movie Review

The other film making its home video debut this week is the Michael Noer-directed remake of the prison drama Papillon which gets a blu-ray + digital release from Universal that features a single featurette and trailer for the US release.

Several catalog titles will be blessed for the first time with a 4k UHD release this week. The Disney Animation feature Wreck-it Ralph gets a 4k Ultra HD release this week as does Sony’s 1997 political action thriller Air Force One starring Harrison Ford.

But the big news this week that will really make you believe a man can fly comes from Warner Bros. who are putting out a 40th Anniversary 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray + Digital HD version of Richard Donner’s Superman: The Movie that starred Christopher Reeve as The Man of Steel. The release will feature a Dolby Vision HDR presentation of the film with a Dolby Atmos sound track. {googleads}

There is also a special release coming from Paramount who have put together a really nice collection that will feature all five Transformers movies in a Transformers: Ultimate Five Movie Collection 4K Ultra HD + Digital Copy.

Several really cool Collector’s Editions will come out this week when Cinedigm drops a Steelbook Collector’s Edition of Robert Rodriguez’s Grindhouse, which includes both Planet Terror and Death Proof. No word on the exact details such as whether it is a repackage of the current blu-ray release to there, or if it will include the extended cuts. Since it is currently listed on Amazon at $25, we assume the latter with some new extra features.

Another title getting a Collector’s Edition release this week is Stephen King’s vampire horror film Sleepwalkers which comes with a ton of new features such as audio commentaries and interviews. Incredibles 2

Neflix’s Stranger Things 2 also is getting a 3-disc Target Exclusive 4K blu-ray release with a special slipcover. News on the release is very scant however. Let us know in the comments below if you picked up a copy or have any of the specific details about the release.

John Carpenter’s The Thing is getting a spiffy looking Steelbook 10,000 unite Limited Edition 3-disc release this week that features a more recent 2017 4K remaster of the film provided by the licensor in addition to new artwork by Nathanael Marsh, while the BBC TV series Sherlock gets a 4K Ultra HD + blu-ray release.

And last but not least is Lionsgate’s 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray + Digital Copy of 2009’s Law Abiding Citizen starring Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler that will include several featureless, commentaries and and a video mash-up.
