A bit of a slow week on the blu-ray and 4K front, but there are several gems that will be released this Tuesday, November 27, 2018, among them the one we have been waiting for since its announcement this past summer from Criterion that tops our list of Most Wanted blu-rays this week.

But first, let’s run through the list of other titles hitting blu-ray and/or 4K Ultra HD this week which starts with a film getting its home video debut. Sony is releasing a blu-ray + digital edition of its missing person thriller called Searching which stars John Cho and Debra Messing. The release will contain four two extra features, an easter egg hunt, and an audio commentary.

Next up is another Sony Pictures release (they seem to be leading they pack this year with their 4K blu-ray releases) - the 4K Ultra HD 25th Anniversary Edition of 1993’s Academy Award-winning drama Philadelphia starring Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington.

Arrow Academy is releasing the Robert Altman-directed classic Gosford Park on blu-ray this week with a new 2K restoration from a 4K scan that the film’s DP (Andrew Dunn) supervised specifically for this release. It will feature a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 audio track, several audio commentaries, interviews, making-of’s, cast Q&As, deleted scenes, 43-page booklet; and reversible artwork. {googleads}

Another release that is making our pants go crazy is Shout Factory’s 4-movie The Critters Collection Blu-ray set that contains Critters, Critters 2: The Main Course, Critter 3, and Critters 4 each with new material, commentaries, featurettes, and a new 2K remaster of the first two films in the box set.

MVD Visual gets into the action in a big way this week with a couple of titles that the company is giving the blu-ray treatment. The first is the blu-ray release of Sharon Stone’s 2006 Basic Instinct 2 which will contain the R-rated theatrical version in addition to the unrated extended cut of the film. The company will also untangle our tingle with the Collector’s Edition release of Gerard Damiano’s Deep Throat which stars Linda Lovelace and Harry Reems and will feature a new 2K HD transfer. Oh, man all that hair… in 2K.

Blue Underground is releasing the 3-disc Limited Edition of Lucio Fulci’s Zombie which includes Zombie 2 and Zombie Flesh Eaters. The cool thing here is that there will be three different versions of the slip cover, the regular cover, Cover B: Splinter, and Cover C: Worms.

There will also be a Best Buy Exclusive 2-disc Steelbook 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray + Digital HD release of Charlize Theron’s spy thriller Atomic Blonde this week.

Also this week, Kino Lorber is releasing Robert Aldrich’s gangster film The Grissom Gang which stars Kim Darby, Robert Lansing, and Connie Stevens. The film has received a new 4K remaster from the original camera negative, and will contain an interview, an audio commentary, and a trailer.

The HBO series Sharp Objects is getting its blu-ray debut this week with the entire first season (eight episodes) coming out on blu-ray + Digital Copy with a handful of special features, while Elvis is getting some love with the Elvis: ’68 Comeback Special - 50th Anniversary Edition blu-ray + CD hitting retailers' shelves.

And finally, Criterion is responsible for our Most Wanted blu-ray release this week when it drops Orson Welles’ 1942 classic period drama The Magnificent Ambersons on a blu-ray Digipack. The film has been reborn with a brand new 4K restoration. Accompanying the film on the disc will be two audio commentaries, new interviews, new video essays, a handful of special features and archival footage plus a trailer.
