Where’s my gold?!
And just like that the leprechaun that has headlined his own horror series across eight movies returns. Except this film, pulling a Halloween circa 2018, doesn’t want you to remember that the Leprechaun went to Vegas, to outer space, and to the hood for two flicks and it definitely doesn’t want you to remember the horrible Leprechaun: Origins movie. Because Tory Redding (Jennifer Aniston) is back . . . not really, but Leprechaun Returns DOES pick up where the first one left off.
Except it is some twenty five years later and Tory’s daughter, Lila (Taylor Spreitler), has returned to the scene of the first attack to try and be all eco-friendly with her sorority sisters. And her first run-in with the legacy that is her mother’s is the first film’s survivor, Ozzie (Mark Holton), who has his truck blinging with all sorts of shamrock charms. Too bad for him that none of that luck charm mumbo jumbo is going to save him from what is just dying to get out.
In what has to be one of the film’s best (and goriest) scenes, the leprechaun (Linden Porco) bursts right out of poor Ozzie’s guts. And he does so feet first. Hilarious. Porco is clearly having fun in the role and he does a damn good job, picking up where Warwick Davis left off; charming and deadly and full of some really awful puns. {googleads}
Directed by Steven Kostanski and written by Ash Vs. Evil Dead’s Suzanne Keilly, Leprechaun Returns has slapstick and go-go-gore galore, making this flick an interesting mix of some old school horror antics as his latest victims head for the hills just outside of the O'Grady farmhouse in an attempt to outrun and outsmart the little fellow.
Co-starring Sai Bennett, Emily Reid, Pepi Sonuga as our sorority gals, Leprechaun Returns digs its heels when with its narrative about this group of somewhat drunk and somewhat sexy gals wanting to do some good in the world. Except the damn leprechaun just wants to torture them, taunting them as only he can in his everlasting search for his gold with his ridiculous comments, such as “I love the smell of gold in the morning.” 
Sometimes the new treatment works and sometimes it falls . . . short. But almost ANYTHING is better than Origins, a series killing movie if ever there was one. That’s where this one delivers a solid good time, erasing all memory of the last failed outing with ample amounts of gore, mailbox murders, and sneaky surprise attacks as the gold-lusting leprechaun plans his demented tricks on this group of young adults.
From sprinklers rammed in mouths to getting split in half by a window, Leprechaun Returns is a solid GORE time of practical effects and zingy one-liners. You might get annoyed by the antics of the young adults out to save the planet one flooded basement at a time, but there’s always the leprechaun to root for when you do. And Lionsgate, bringing this flick to you on blu-ray, knows this.
Bringing new meaning to going green, Leprechaun Returns to finish what he started 25 years ago.

Prepare to get lucky with this release from Lionsgate. Black levels are crisp and deep, and colors are saturated. With stunning results, Lionsgate presents Leprechaun Returns on blu-ray with an aspect ratio of 1.85:1. The color palette is naturally well balanced with warm and rich hues. Contrast is excellent, with solid and deep blacks and revealing shadow delineation. Flesh tones are naturally cast. The special effects and gore are quite rich and, especially when the leprechaun multiples, the effects top notch. The audio is presented in a solid DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track.
