Are you ready to pay for your sins? That’s the question that is at the center of this clue-riddled movie because sometimes revenge is the sweetest dish served . . . especially when on a double date and trapped in an Escape Room.
Directed by J. Jones and written by Lizze Gordon, Escape: Puzzle of Fear put a hotshot Hollywood agent - with an incredibly dark and twisted past - at the forefront of a revenge plot when his girlfriend, Brittany (Aubrey Reynolds) takes charge of a killer Escape Room in downtown Hollywood. There’s no puzzle to solve here because Matthew Blake (Tommy Nash) is a bad, bad man.
What we - as audience members of this thriller - get to do, though, is witness just how lowdown and deplorable Blake and his oldest friend, Tyler (Omar Gooding), actually are. With involvement and motivations at an all time high, this enigma of carnival-type frights gets his hands and its thought very bloody as, it turns out, everyone has something at stake in this game of revenge.
With the best acting coming from Gooding and Reynolds, Blake must atone for the sins of his past and his present. And it starts out, eerily enough, with the couples being arrested for the disappearance of two little girls which Blake and Tyler are all too aware of. We are already aware of their crimes thanks to some heavy-handed flashbacks which reveal a bit too much of their gruesome twosome ways. 
All in all, Escape: Puzzle of Fear is a pretty novel concept and it is directed solidly enough on its low budget, which is always a good thing when it comes to VOD entertainment. There are enough shocks and jolts along the way that keep us engaged with the revenge plot as the list of those aggrieved and aggravated grows and grows.
We get the idea of this thriller relatively quickly and it is the functionality of the Escape Room premise which works best, keeping audiences on their toes until the final curtain has been raised and the wizard revealed. Thankfully, this one delivers enough sex and violence to keep it from sinking into the depths of VOD doom.
