Hell Comes to Frogtown

Hell Comes to Frogtown and only "Rowdy" Roddy Piper as Sam Hell can save the day.  I don’t know whose idea it was – cinematographer/director Donald G. Jackson or writer/producer Randall Frakes or, hell, the B-film minded souls over at Roger Corman’s New World Pictures – but strapping a bomb onto Piper’s private parts in order to force him to fuck for the future is damned ingenious.

"With awesome creature effects and lots of hilarious situations, Hell Comes to Frogtown is back in all its 80s' post-apocalyptic sci-fi weirdness!"

And now, thanks to Vinegar Syndrome, Sam Hell returns to locate and impregnate in a mutant landscape in all his 4K glory!  With awesome creature effects and lots of hilarious situations, Hell Comes to Frogtown is back in all its 80s' post-apocalyptic sci-fi weirdness!

Co-starring Sandahl Bergman (Conan the Barbarian), Cec Verrell, William Smith (Red Dawn) and Rory Calhoun (Angel), Hell Comes to Frogtown is the post-apocalyptic tale of Sam Hell, once a wanted felon, and his journey to rescue a group of fertile females (referred to as pilgrims here) who, thanks to some mutant amphibians, are being used as sex slaves.

Med-Tech, a group of warrior nurses track Sam Hell thanks to the trail of pregnant women he has left in his wake and, because there are very few fertile men and women left in this version of our future, they need his magic penis to repopulate the planet.  They are going to get the women out and his mission is to get them pregnant.

But fucking for your country is harder than it seems and Hell wants nothing to do with it.  It’s a lot of pressure, you know!  Hilarious and full of some pretty wonderful lines and scenes, Hell Comes to Frogtown and its one ounce explosive charge in Piper’s crotch is a nonstop blast through cheesy effects, campy situations, and some awesome creature designs.  And, thanks to the restoration work of Vinegar Syndrome, the film looks better than ever, leaving the VHS days far, far behind.Hell Comes to Frogtown

Fuck for freedom, right?  Sounds pretty cool.  The problem is that Hell doesn’t want to do it in Frogtown; it’s certain death he says.  Piper is hilarious as the journeyman Hell.  He is always trying to weasel his way out his contract.  The situations he finds himself with women (usually out of their uniforms) and their expectations of him as they ride around in a pink jalopy through a sand-blasted future is non-stop B-movie fun.

Piper and Bergman have some fun exchanges throughout the movie, both taunting and teasing each other in order to get Piper’s character in the mood for love.  But getting into Commander Toty’s palace in going to take a lot of work.  Frogtown is not safe; even as armed to the teeth as this group is, it won’t be easy.  And, when Hell finally gets into the groove of his mission, the women have to trust that he can and will get IT up.

See frogs like you’ve never seen them before!  Hell Comes to Frogtown arrives on blu-ray in a special limited edition V-shaped splitcover, designed by Earl Kessler Jr., and is limited to 3,000 units.  It is only available at VinegarSyndrome.com

Newly scanned & restored in 4k from its 35mm interpositive, the creature designs in this film absolutely burst with details.  Presented in a crisp 1080p transfer, the new 4k scan of the original negative is a thing of pristine beauty.  The film is dominated with reds and greens that sparks with strong colors.  It’s a cheap film, for sure, but the simple backgrounds burst with new details and a nice level of clarity.  Black levels are solid and skin tones are natural.  This is, after all, a dark film. There are lots of night scenes; thankfully, the lines hold their edges. Shadows are defined and the film has a new depth previously unseen.  Audio wise, the DTS-HD MA 2.0 stereo soundtrack is included as well as a 5.1 mix which amplifies the effects.  The dialogue is clear and the score/effects are never lost or hard to hear.

Synopsis: In a post-nuclear holocaust wasteland, Sam Hell ("Rowdy" Roddy Piper) is like most other survivors; a nomadic scavenger roaming the bombed out remnants of the world for food and survival gear. But Sam is also harboring a major secret that even he isn't aware of: he's the last fertile man on Earth. As unexpected pregnancies are discovered, the remnants of the government decide to capture him and, with the aid of scientist Spangle, fit him with a secure chastity belt to ensure his virility is used only when needed. After learning of a group of supposed virgins who are being held captive by frog-mutant savages, Sam is sent on a rescue mission to free the women and then, of course, impregnate them. Is he up for the job? You bet...
