Burton's DUMBO Soars Past Peele's US at Weekend Box Office

Audience's were all ears this weekend as Disney's live action reimagining of its classic elephant tale, Dumbo flew straight to the top of the box office with a $45 million take that knocked Jordan Peele's Us from the top spot. The horror thriller managed another $33.6 million haul to bring its two-week total to a whopping $128 million.

The Marvel superhero action film Captain Marvel also did well in its fourth week of release with a $20.5 million total while the young adult film Five Feet Apart managed another $6.2 million while the christian drama film Unplanned rounded out the top five box office spots with a debut total of $6.1 million.

Paramount's family-friendly Wonder Park took in nearly $5 million to finish in sixth place while Universal's How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World continued to perform strongly in seventh place with a total of $4.2 million.

The true story thriller Hotel Mumbai made a huge jump by moving up from 39th place last week to finish in the eighth slot with $3 million in receipts this week.

Tyler Perry's comedy A Madea Family Funeral dropped three slots to finish in ninth place this week with a $2.7 million take while Matthew McConaughey's comedy Beach Bum debuted poorly in the tenth slot with just $1.8 million take in on its opening weekend.
