Mary Poppins Returns - Teaser Trailer

Disney is bringing back Mary Poppins in a big way this holiday season when it releases the long-awaited sequel to Mary Poppins which hit big screens 54 years ago.

Of course, the original starred Julie Andrews as the magical singing nanny who pitched in to raise two neglected children and help them become closer to their father. Well, in this new version, Mary Poppins Returns she revisits the family to help a new generation of the banks family recover after a family tragedy.

"Mary Poppins Returns is set in 1930s depression-era London (the time period of the original novels) and is drawn from the wealth of material in PL Travers’ additional seven books. In the story, Michael (Ben Whishaw) and Jane (Emily Mortimer) are now grown up, with Michael, his three children and their housekeeper, Ellen (Julie Walters), living on Cherry Tree Lane. After Michael suffers a personal loss, the enigmatic nanny Mary Poppins (Emily Blunt) re-enters the lives of the Banks family, and, along with the optimistic street lamplighter Jack (Lin-Manuel Miranda), uses her unique magical skills to help the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives. Mary Poppins also introduces the children to a new assortment of colorful and whimsical characters, including her eccentric cousin, Topsy (Meryl Streep)."

The sequel stars Emily Blunt in the title role and is set in depression-era London where we meet now-grown Jane & Michael Banks as they encounter the re-appearance of the enigmatic nanny who has come to help the family rediscover the missing that has been missing in their lives.

Mary Poppins Returns also stars Colin Firth, Meryl Streep, Emily Mortimer, and Ben Whishaw as well as Angela Lansbury as the balloon lady and Dick Van Dyke as the retired chairman of the bank which is now run by Colin Firth’s William Weatherall Wilkins.

The film is directed by Rob Marshall who works from a script by David Magee. It is sure to be in good hands as Magee was the screenwriter for such notable films as 2012's Life of Pi; 2008's Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, and 2004's Finding Neverland.
