“What is it you like about this house so much?"

Synopsis: With A GHOST STORY acclaimed director David Lowery (AIN'T THEM BODIES SAINTS, PETE'S DRAGON) returns with a singular exploration of legacy, loss, and the essential human longing for meaning and connection.

Recently deceased, a white-sheeted ghost (Academy Award-winner Casey Affleck) returns to his suburban home to console his bereft wife (Academy Award-nominee Rooney Mara), only to find that in his spectral state he has become unstuck in time, forced to watch passively as the life he knew and the woman he loves slowly slip away. Increasingly unmoored, the ghost embarks on a cosmic journey through memory and history, confronting life’s ineffable questions and the enormity of existence.

An unforgettable meditation on love and grief, A GHOST STORY emerges ecstatic and surreal — a wholly unique experience that lingers long after the credits roll.

A Ghost Story - Movie Trailer

After wowing audiences at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, the new film by writer/director David Lowery is prepped and ready to hit theaters later this summer.

Until then we can watch the first trailer for the film that stars Rooney Mara and Casey Affleck as two lovers who face tragedy when the husband (Affleck) dies and returns as a white-sheeted ghost determined to look after his surviving wife (Mara).

As ridiculous as that premise sounds, and despite a scene or two from the trailer that features a creepy ghost standing in an abandoned building, we can tell from the look and feel of the footage that this isn’t a horror movie in the sense that its title might suggest.

In fact, it is billed by its marketers as an existential love story that explores many of the questions that we ponder about life. And if the trailer is playing real to the tone of the film, then their description is spot on.

Of special interest here is seeing Affleck in his follow-up to last year’s Oscar-winning performance in Manchester By the Sea. Who would have ever thought he’d spend most of it beneath a white sheet with eyeholes.

A Ghost Story also stars Sonia Acevedo, Liz Franke, and Grover Coulson.

A Ghost Story is not yet rated but will haunt its way into theaters this summer on July 7, 2017.
