CHIPS - Movie Trailer

With remakes, reboots and old TV show adaptations all the rage these days, it was only a matter of time before Hollywood would get its grubby meat hooks on CHiPS, the quintessential cop show of the 70’s created by Rick Rosner. The light-hearted comedy was a huge hit in the late seventies and into the early eighties so there’s a built-in audience of millions waiting to see the return of Jon and “Ponch” to the big screen. Only problem is that after watching the newly released trailer, the studio appears to have turned the product into a silly, dick-joke of a film geared toward picking up a much younger audience.

The film stars Dax Shepard (TV’s Parenthood) as Officer Jon Baker, and Michael Peña (The Martian) as Officer Frank “Ponch” Poncherello, a couple of California Highway Patrol cops working the PCH around the Los Angeles area. The two joined the force for very different reasons. Baker is a beaten up pro motorbiker trying to put his life and marriage back together. Poncherello is a cocky undercover Federal agent investigating a multi-million dollar heist that may be an inside job—inside the CHiP.

The inexperienced rookie and hardened pro are teamed together, but clash more than click, so kickstarting a partnership is easier said than done.  But with Baker’s bike skills combined with Ponch’s street savvy it might just work… if they don’t drive each other crazy along the way.

Joing the cast are Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars), Rosa Salazar (Insurgent), Ryan Hansen (Veronica Mars), David Koechner (the Anchorman films), Michael K. Williams (HBO’s Boardwalk Empire) and Vincent D’Onofrio (Jurassic World).
