Army of Darkness - Bruce Campbell

According to "Ash" himself, Bruce Campbell says that, despite rumors to the contrary that have been buzzing around the web of late, a follow-up to the 1997 cult classic, Army of Darkness will not be happening.

Fans may recall that last month Campbell was reported by ComicBook.com to have verbally confirmed a sequel to the 1992 dark-comedy directed by Sam Raimi. When asked by a fan at the Wizard World Comic Con just a few weeks ago if a sequel will happen, Campbell said, "The answer is yes." And just a few days ago, Evil Dead (2013) director Fede Alvarez posted the following on his Twitter feed which sounds like a pretty believable comment pointing out that Saimi will head the project.

Army of Darkness rumor tweet

But just this past weekend, Erin Darling of the ThePopfix.com caught up with the Evil Dead actor at Stan Lee's Comikaze convention and confronted him about his comments, which he called "Internet BS. There's no reality whatsoever" to the rumors of an Army of Darkness revisit." Campbell continued, "These random comments slip out of my mouth or Sam Raimi's mouth, next thing you know, we're making a sequel. Unless it's announced from Renaissance Pictures, it's not real"

Color us optimistic, but it sounds like one of two things is happening with regards to this long-rumored project. Either the studios, its lawyers, or someone else with an interest ($$$) has stepped in to shush the whole thing until final details can be worked out, or else an off-the-cuff tweet by Alvarez and a casual comment - at about the same time - by Campbell has set the internet on fire with a vicious rumor that will remain just that. But every smart person in show biz knows that the internet and its millions of amateur sleuths and social media worker bees is the best form of advertising money can buy.

This thing is beginning to sound more and more like the on-again-off-again Ghostbusters project.
