Jeremy Renner to play Julian Assange

Even with Mission Impossible, Avengers and Bourne movies to boot, recent action favorite Jeremy Renner is far off from laying low from the silver screen and may be set for a more serious dramatic lead as talks of a Wikileaks movie from Dreamworks has him pinned as the controversial Julian Assange.

The movie will be based on two books by reporters David Leigh and Luke Harding’s Wikileaks: Inside Julian Assange’s War on Secrecy and Daniel Domscheit-Berg’s Inside WikiLeaks: My Time with Julian Assange at the World's Most Dangerous Website. The books account Assange’s personal life as well as government and business exposes of one of the biggest whistle blowing organizations ever.

Being in its early stages, Wikileaks full story is yet to unfold, with Julian Assange presently seeking political asylum in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, following Sweden’s pursuit over alleged sex crimes.

Twilight and Dreamgirls director Bill Condon is plugged to take on the film.

As to why he is always playing someone working for/against/within the government we don’t know the answer to (is it the regal look?). What we know is he is frequenting the action scene lately with not only commercial but big blockbuster movies - quite a big jump from his non-celeb days as a make-up artist.

So still a Fed-related but nonetheless iconic role it is for the two-time Oscar nominee who started off with The Hurt Locker and other indie films. Renner is currently promoting another one of his titular films The Bourne Legacy released last week. His other projects include the now untitled, but previously named American Bullshit by The Fighter director David O. Russell where he plays - surprise surprise - an FBI agent, replacing Fighter star Christian Bale who dropped out earlier. He will be co-starring with Amy Adams and Bradley Cooper.
