Frank Marshall Says No INDIANA JONES 5

No Indiana Jones 5

Though very careful to indicate he was speaking solely for himself during a recent interview, uber-producer Frank Marshall gave a very pessimistic outlook for a fifth film in the Indiana Jones series.

The beloved producer behind such film classics as the Back to the Future films, The Sixth Sense, The Goonies, and the Bourne series, gave us a bone earlier this week while making the PR rounds for his upcoming The Bourne Legacy film that a good story for the 4th Jurassic Park film has begun to surface and that it is likely to hit theaters in 2014. When pressed a bit further by Collider.com, the filmmaker was less optimistic about a fifth Indiana Jones movie however.

Frank Marshall and Steven SpielbergIndy 5 talk has been circulating for years, but nothing of any substance has stuck to the wall. When asked about the prospects of bring Harrison Ford out of the mothballs, Marshall offered the following: "I say, for me, [Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is] the last hurrah.  I know that yes, we talk about it, but there’s no idea, there’s no MacGuffin."

So, there you have it. Despite the rumor and innuendo spewing from the George Lucas camp over the least year or so about the "germ of an idea" he and Spielberg have shared, it sounds like nothing Marshall wants to be a part of. Marshall even addressed Lucas's departure from LucasFilms announced earlier this year by adding "Yeah, no he isn't [hungry to do another Indiana Jones].  And he's obviously passing the baton to my wife, so." Marshall's wife is producer Kathleen Kennedy who was named co-chair and successor to George Lucas at Lucasfilm.

The more optimistic readers will certainly be quick to point out Marshall's reluctance to totally nix the idea, but it sounds to us like a good riddance to the notion of an Indiana Jones 5 picture.
