The Gangster Squad Trailer

We finally get our first look at the mob action in one of the summer's most anticipated films (that doesn't feature characters in tights) via a trailer for The Gangster Squad, the dark period drama from Ruben Fleischer who honed his directorial skills on Zombieland and 30 Minutes or Less.

The film is based on the real-life story of Brooklyn gangster Mickey Cohen who left the east coast to set up a racket in Los Angeles, circa 1949 and the hodgepodge of Los Angeles lawmen assembled to bring down the head of the "Jewish Mafia."

The Gangster Squad stars an ensemble cast of Hollywood's elite actors including Sean Penn as Mickey Cohen, Josh Brolin, Nick Nolte, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, and Giovanni Ribisi. How's that for a star-studded cast?

Although it was previously set to open opposite the romantic comedy The Wedding on October 19th of this year, that date has since been pulled and we're waiting for more information regarding its release.

Official Synopsis: Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and--if he has his way--every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It's enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop...except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O'Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen's world apart. Gangster Squad is a colorful retelling of events surrounding the LAPD's efforts to take back their nascent city from one of the most dangerous mafia bosses of all time.
