First Trailer for George Lucas' RED TAILS Features The Tuskegee Airmen

Red TailsThe Tuskegee airmen get another chance to bring their heroics to the big screen, this time in the Lucasfilm produced WWII drama, Red Tails which is a dramatic retelling of the story of the first African-American fighter pilots to fly on combat missions. Because the U.S. Air Force were losing so many bombers to deadly German air squadrons during the early parts of the war, the U.S. military turned to the Tuskegee Institute - one of the first African-American colleges in America at the time - to provide bomber protection. Though the military was still segregated at the time, the pilots performed admirably and can be credited with helping turn the tide of the war.

The film has been in production for two years but it finally gets a release date as well as a trailer. The high-flying action looks truly incredible - should be especially appealing to WWII aerial combat enthusiasts - and it appears to be a finely produced trailer, but it's hard not to hear some of the same stilted dialogue we've come to expect from George Lucas: "we will not go away." Regardless, this looks to be a must-see movie and a welcome addition to the dwindling war movie genre.

The screenplay for Red Tails was written by John Ridley from a story by George Lucas, is directed by Anthony Hemingway, and stars a veritable who's who of actors, including Cuba Gooding, Jr, Terrence Howard, Ne-Yo, Bryan Cranston, and Daniela Ruah. Red tails is slated to be released in theaters on January 20th 2012.
