Matterhorn movie adaptationIt didn't take the fourth film in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise to make Walt Disney Studios realize the wealth to be mined in bringing to the big screen, adaptations of its theme park attractions, but it sure did light a fire under their arses. Pirates 4 has already brought in a whopping worldwide total just short of a billion dollars, with the entire Pirates franchise breeching the $3 billion mark… not including DVD/blu-ray and On Demand sales. So, we shouldn't be surprised that the Mouse House is moving full steam ahead with its numerous other theme park attraction adaptations including Guillermo del Toro's remake of The Haunted Mansion, Tom Hanks and Tim Allen's Jungle Cruise adaptation, and Jon Favreau's take on a The Magic Kingdom idea. Even The Enchanted Tiki Room, one of Disney World's worst attraction, is said to be getting the movie treatment.

Well, now it seems The Matterhorn wants in on the action with (according to The Hollywood Reporter) "A thrilling, fast-paced movie centering on five young adventure seekers who, for mysterious reasons, are called to the top of the [famous Swiss] mountain and encounter a Yeti [a.k.a. Abominable Snowman] on the journey down." The Matterhorn is a part of Disneyland's Fantasyland section that is a tobaggan-themed roller coaster ride similar to Disneyworld's Magic Mountain.

Jason Dean Hall has been named to pen the script with Justin Springer producing the project. This is probably all a numbers game as most of these will certainly flop, but even a single Pirates-type hit can make up for all the ones that fail to strike a chord with audiences.
