Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tommy Lee Jones Join Swelling LINCOLN Cast

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tommy Lee JonesIts name alone hints at greatness, but attach "directed by Steven Spielberg" to it and there's no question that the long-destating biopic on our 16th president, called Lincoln, will be the heavy hitter in theaters when it's released next year.

And as if having Spielberg attached to it weren't enough to pique your interest, how does this cast sound? Sally Field, Daniel Day-Lewis, Hal Holbrook, James Spader, John Hawkes, Tim Blake Nelson, and Bruce McGill.

And now Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tommy Lee Jones are getting in on the casting parade as Dreamworks has announced that the actors have just accepted offers to depict Robert Todd Lincoln, the eldest son of Abraham and Thaddeus "The Great Commoner" Stevens, respectively. If nothing else, the film will surely go down as the movie with the most triple-named actors in its cast.

Day-Lewis is set to depict Abraham Lincoln in the adaptation of the acclaimed novel Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin, while Sally Field will become Mary Todd Lincoln. No word however, on whether she'll ask her truthful husband if the dress she's wearing makes her backside look big.

Production on Lincoln is planned to begin this fall with a theatrical release sometime in late 2012. The story is said to focus on the political turmoil Lincoln experienced going up against the powerful men of his cabinet as the Civil War wound down and the road to abolition was being paved.
