Quentin Tarantino's Next Film Gets a Title

Quentin Tarantino - Django UnchainedThe title of Quentin Tarantino's next movie has just been confirmed by his agency. And a little of the plot has been revealed as well.

Linking to Sergio Corbucci's original 1966 coffin-dragging western Django, the Pulp Fiction director will continue his two-word title naming convention by calling his next film Django Unchained. It's also likely the title is a reference to Takashi Miike's Sukiyaki Western Django in which the Q man enjoyed a brief cameo as a deadly snake killer. Django was a particularly violent spaghetti Western made in 1966 in which Franco Nero played the lead. The "Django" series of films continued into the '70s with various actors in the Django role.

Over the weekend The Tarantino Archives exclusively released the film's title along with a scan of the script's cover that includes QT's handwritten title treatment. You can see the scan below.

Tarantino next film - Django Unchained

To further whet our appetites, an unnamed source has read the script and leaves us with the following plot description over on Shadow and Act:

"Django is a freed slave, who, under the tutelage of a German bounty hunter (played by Christopher Waltz the evil Nazi officer in Inglorious Basterds) becomes a bad-ass bounty hunter himself, and after assisting Waltz in taking down some bad guys for profit, is helped by Waltz in tracking down his slave wife and liberating her from an evil plantation owner. And that doesn’t even half begin to cover it! This film deals with racism as I’ve rarely seen it handled in a Hollywood film. While it’s 100 percent pure popcorn and revenge flick, it is pure genius in the way it takes on the evil slave owning south. Think of what he did with the Nazis in Inglorious and you’ll get a sense of what he’s doing with slave owners and slave overseers in this one."

And, as if all that's not enough, Deadline has confirmed that the project is moving forward very quickly with Stacey Sher putting on the producer hat. Christoph Waltz's involvement has also been confirmed with the Weinstein Co. handling the domestic distribution duties.
