Peter Jackson Hobbit Video BlogLiving up to his rep as the guy not afraid to pull back the curtains on his film productions, Peter Jackson has recently posted a little 10-minute long featurette from the set and production offices of his forthcoming film, The Hobbit.

Watching Peter Jackson's first video blog from his Facebook page is a bit magical, not only due the nature of the subject, but also because of all the delays, contract snafus and and union strikes that threatened to keep this thing from ever getting off the ground.

In the video, you can see the recreation of some of the sets that were used in the LOTR films as well as footage of production meetings, and all the cast crew putting together costumes and rehearsing battle scenes. The Hobbit is underway, folks! Check it out below:

Jackson is shooting both segments of the two-part The Hobbit back-to-back in 3D using the latest digital camera and stereo technology. The story tells of the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, played by Martin Freeman, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug.

The Hobbit is due to hit theaters in December 2012.
