Naomi Watts Joins Eastwood's J. Edgar Hoover Biopic

We know that Leonardo DiCaprio will put on the hangdog Hoover face to depict the first director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and that Ed Westwick, Ken Howard and Armie Hammer have joined the cast as well.

Charlize Theron was initially set for the role of Hoover's secretary and confidant responsible for keeping secret and later trashing the files of Hoover's many clandestine dealings. But she has since moved on to play the Evil Queen in the upcoming Snow White and The Huntsman and is even rumored for Ridley Scott's once-prequel to Alien, now stand-alone film, Prometheus. So, in steps actress number 2 in the person of Naomi Watts. Not a bad parachute.

It's hard to gauge interest in a Hoover biopic, but with Eastwood behind the camera and this star-packed cast, our money is on the "success" side of the gamble.

Ed Westwick is set to play Agent Smith, a clean-cut operative hired by Hoover to write his biography; Josh Lucas plays aviator/inventor Charles Lindbergh; Damon Herriman plays Bruno Hauptmann, the German immigrant accused of kidnapping Lindbergh's 20-month baby in 1932. Called the crime of the century, Hauptmann’s trial was a major case for Hoover;  Ken Howard is playing U.S. attorney General Harlan F. Stone and Armie Hammer is set to play Clyde Tolson, Hoover's alleged lover. Delicious!
