Excited about visiting Asia for the first time but nervous about meeting Nick’s family, Rachel is unprepared to learn that Nick has neglected to mention a few key details about his life. It turns out that he is not only the scion of one of the country’s wealthiest families but also one of its most sought-after bachelors. Being on Nick’s arm puts a target on Rachel’s back, with jealous socialites and, worse, Nick’s own disapproving mother (Yeoh) taking aim. And it soon becomes clear that while money can’t buy love, it can definitely complicate things.

Crazy Rich Asians - First Teaser Trailer Trailer

Fans of Kevin Kwan's best-selling romance novel will finally get their big screen fix when Warner Bros. releases Crazy Rich Asians later this summer. And from the looks of the trailer, it will be as extravagant as its name.

In the trailer we meet Fresh Off the Boat's Constance Wu as New Yorker Rachel Chu who decides it is finally time to meet the parents of her handsome boyfriend Nick Young (Henry Golding). They've been dating for a year, so traveling to Singapore to meet them shouldn't feel this awkward, but when we meet Nick's mother, we begin to understand why Nick may have been hiding something from his girlfriend.

Crazy Rich Asians stars an international cast including Gemma Chan (Humans), Lisa Lu (2012), Awkwafina (upcoming Ocean’s 8, Neighbors 2), Ken Jeong (the Hangover films) and Michelle Yeoh (Star Trek: Discovery). While we could have done without the always-annoying and over-used Ken Jeong, it appears from the trailer, which you can watch below, that his role might be minimal.

It is just a short teaser trailer that was teased from Constance Wu's twitter account on Monday, so there's not a lot to see here, but it does fill us in quite adequately on the plot and puts on display the rich and vibrant colors of Singapore from director of photography Vanja Cernjul and production designer Nelson Coates. There's definitely a 50 Shades of Grey romantic feel to it, but the comedic elements are sure to be much appreciated.
