Following the earlier tease of a series of stills, Marvel/Disney have finally released the first official trailer for the long-awaited Captain Marvel movie that stars Brie Larson (Room) as Marvel's biggest female hero. And you can watch it below.

In the film that is set in the 1990's - we know this because of the appearance of a Blockbuster video rental store - Larson is Carol Danvers who we meet in the trailer as she is beginning to learn about her newfound powers and how to use them. This is our first time to see the Danvers character in a Marvel film so, needless to say, anticipation and excitement levels are at an all-time high this morning following the trailer's release.

This is a bit of a different origin story as we meet Danvers, who is an Air Force pilot who gained her superpowers when her DNA was fused with that of an alien being during an explosion, after she has already obtained her powers. As a result, she has become one of the most powerful superheroes and is thrust into an epic battle as Earth's existence hangs in the balance. {googleads}

The film is directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck who work from a script by Anna Boden. In addition to Larson, Captain Marvel stars Gemma Chan as Minn-Erva, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Jude Law as Walter Lawson/Mar-vell and Colin Ford as Steve Danvers. You can check out the cool new poster for Captain Marvel below, as well as the exciting new trailer. Captain Marvel will hit theaters next Spring on March 8th.
