Breeder

This is a dark, dark, dark film to watch.  Make sure you are in the right headspace before you even wander down into the depths of Breeders rabbit hole.  You might not be the same person coming out.

Youth and beauty.  Some people will kill for it and both writer Sissel Dalsgaard Thomsen and director Jens Dahl, a television showrunner-turned-film director who made his directorial debut with 3 Things, know it.

"This is a dark film and it is going to come across as both weird and unique. It will divide audiences. The message is there, though. And it needs to be heard.  "

This is why Breeder, premiering on digital thanks to  Uncork’d Entertainment, will shake your foundations.  This Danish horror film is more than disturbing as a questionable relationship between a woman and her husband gets put under the microscope.  It is also a haunting look at the illegal business of biohacking and the price some people will pay for eternal beauty.

While the film starts strong, there are a lot of missteps made as one woman finds herself at the mercy of a renowned health supplement company.  It won’t matter to most, though.  You are either with this feature full of WEIRD SCIENCE or you have already abandoned it for its shocking scenarios and for what it has to say about our own temptations when it comes to aging.

Run by a ruthless businesswoman, this medical company is selecting and abducting young women as part of an experiment to reverse the aging process. When Mia (Sara Hjort Ditlevsen) goes to investigate, she finds herself trapped, branded and tortured in a grim underground facility. Familiar faces start to appear, and she realizes that she is not alone in this. Can she somehow find inner strength and escape from the nightmare? Breeder

Starring Signe Egholm Olsen, Anders Heinrichsen, and Morten Holst, this edgy thriller is filled with tension and strong acting from its leads.  As an underground medical facility is this film’s major location, we should relish when we are above ground as horses and stables fill our senses.  All too soon, this horror flick goes dark as many women are kidnapped and held against their will.

And, rest assured, their revenge will be brutal.

Produced by Maria Møller Christoffersen (Koko-Di Koko-Da), this journey into the dark heart of biohacking is gritty in its rollout and quite purposeful in its intent to shock viewers into accepting the aging process.  But the twists and turns the narrative takes in getting us to that conclusion is unsettling and unexpected.

This is a dark film and it is going to come across as both weird and unique. It will divide audiences. The message is there, though. And it needs to be heard.

Breeder will be released on Digital Jan 11, 2022 via Uncork’d Entertainment.
